In the heart of Hungary’s Hajós-Bajai wine region lies a testament to passion and perseverance: the Sziegl Cellar. Established in 2012 by the dedicated duo, Petra and Balázs, this winemaking venture began with a humble gift—a small parcel of land from an elderly farming couple, igniting an extraordinary journey.
From those modest beginnings, Petra and Balázs meticulously nurtured their vines, expanding their vineyard to nearly 9 hectares while steadfastly embracing natural and organic farming practices. Their ethos revolves around allowing the grapes to express the authentic essence of their terroir, letting nature guide their winemaking process.
At the heart of their vineyard, primary grape varieties like Kövidinka, Kadarka, Olaszrizling, and Kékfrankos intertwine with hints of Hárslevelű, Traminer, and Riesling, crafting a symphony of flavors unique to their wines. Each bottle, meticulously numbered, stands as a testament to the exclusivity and artistry encapsulated in their delightful creations.
What commenced as a gift swiftly evolved into an inseparable bond between Petra, Balázs, and the land of Hajós. Young postgraduates filled with ambition, they embarked on an adventurous path, confronting challenges while unwaveringly believing in the region’s potential and time-honored Hungarian winemaking traditions.
Their deep connection to the land led Petra and Balázs to commit themselves to cultivating every grapevine organically by their own hands. The fruits of their labor now flow into glasses worldwide, encapsulating the enchanting landscape and the very essence of the winemakers themselves.
The journey of each drop from their three press-houses nestled within the world’s largest wine cellar village is steeped in tradition.
