With a total of 10 hectares under cultivation and an additional 2 hectares of purchased grapes, he meticulously tends to his vineyards, fostering an organic approach to cultivation.
Experimentation is at the heart of János Németh’s winemaking journey. Embracing spontaneous fermentation and exploring the intricacies of whole bunch pressing, he nurtures an environment where each grape’s character can fully express itself. Fermenting in open vats, his wines embark on a transformative journey before finding their place within Budapest Kádár barrels, where they patiently age to perfection.
However, this passionate winemaker’s journey isn’t without its challenges. Navigating the characteristic “saddies” of Szekszárd, János Németh witnesses firsthand the changes impacting the region. Encounters with wild animals in the woodland surrounding the vineyards pose hurdles, often affecting the harvest. Fences now encircle many vineyards, a stark reminder of the evolving landscape that echoes a bygone era.
