2HA Winery, under the visionary guidance of Csaba Török, stands as a beacon of innovation in the storied Badacsony wine region. With an unconventional approach to winemaking that traces its roots back to 2003, this winery crafts an unparalleled wine-drinking experience that captivates both casual enthusiasts and seasoned connoisseurs alike. Nestled in the heart of the Badacsony region, boasting south-facing vineyards and soil rich in volcanic minerals, 2HA Winery has carved its niche by focusing on organic winemaking techniques and the meticulous aging process in wooden barrels, a testament to their commitment to producing wines of exceptional quality.
Initially established on a modest 2 hectares atop the remarkable St. George mountain, 2HA Vineyard and Winery has expanded to cultivate 2×2 hectares of organic vineyards in the scenic vicinity of the north side of Lake Balaton. This deliberate expansion ensures each vine receives dedicated, specialized care, enabling the production of the finest wines. Csaba’s unwavering belief in the land’s capacity for superior quality drives his pursuit to create the absolute best, making every step in the winemaking process deliberate and purposeful.
At the core of 2HA Winery’s philosophy lies the belief that the journey toward excellence surpasses the destination. Their commitment to natural winemaking is evident as they shun techniques that might compromise the inherent aromas of their wines. Unfiltered and aged exclusively in wood barrels, including fermentation in wood, each bottle is a testament to their dedication to preserving the wine’s authenticity. Remarkably, even the bottling process aligns with the lunar calendar, a testament to their holistic approach to winemaking.
Csaba Török embarked on his winemaking journey in the early 2000s, and since then, his winery has risen to prominence among the prestigious Badacsony wineries. Leveraging the microclimate of south-facing areas and the diverse volcanic soils enriched with minerals like iron dioxide, Csaba’s experimentation thrives, especially in the realm of red wines, following the legacy of the Balafon Highlands prior to the Phylloxera era.
Managing 7 hectares, the winery’s roots trace back to the planting of the first vines before the early 80s, culminating in their inaugural vintage in 2007. However, the true foundation was laid when Csaba personally planted the vines in May 2003, signifying a commitment to excellence from the vine’s inception. With a keen eye on sustainability and adaptability, Csaba is poised to reform the grape variety selection, aligning it with the evolving climate conditions for more economically viable yields.
The meticulous care extends even to the barrels used for aging—the Kádár Hungary barrels are meticulously cleansed using ozone and steam, allowing for the aging of white wine in red wine barrels. This attention to detail speaks volumes about the unwavering commitment to crafting wines of unparalleled quality and character.
2HA Winery continues to redefine the boundaries of winemaking, inviting wine enthusiasts on an extraordinary journey where tradition meets innovation, resulting in wines that embody the essence of the Badacsony region’s terroir.
