Nestled in the enchanting Tokaj wine region, Lajos Takács stands as a venerated winemaker, revered for his dedication to crafting exceptional natural wines. His journey began in 1997 when he established the illustrious Hollóvár Winery, drawing acclaim for its exquisite natural wines in the volcanic expanse of Somló.
Embracing the terroir with reverence, Lajos nurtured the indigenous Hárslevelű and Furmint vines in Somló, honing his craft and establishing a reputation for uncompromising quality. However, in a pivotal decision reflective of his deep-rooted connection to his hometown, Lajos returned to Tokaj Hegyalja in 2014, a move that would redefine his winemaking pursuit.
Rekindling his roots, Lajos planted his vineyards, Bohomály and Patócs, with a carefully selected 4500 Furmint vines in Tokaj, resulting in an exquisitely limited production. Central to his ethos is a commitment to chemical-free viticulture, a testament to his respect for the land and the integrity of his craft. Notably, he meticulously creates his own herbal spray, a testament to his dedication to sustainable winemaking practices.
In July 2022, Lajos proudly unveiled his inaugural Tokaj wine under the enduring brand name HOLLOVAR, preserving a legacy that transcends geographical boundaries. The name “Hollovar,” translating to Raven’s Castle, pays homage to the erstwhile vineyard locations in Somló, a poignant tribute to the foundation upon which his winemaking expertise flourished.
With a profound understanding of tradition and an unwavering commitment to innovation, Lajos Takács continues to etch his legacy within the storied vineyards of Tokaj.
