PÁLFFY
Nestled within the picturesque landscapes of the Káli basin, Pálffy Winery stands as a testament to a rich legacy of winemaking, spanning six generations of dedication and expertise. Situated on an expansive 18-hectare estate sprawled across the southern slopes of the Fekete mountain, this family-owned winery is committed to crafting exceptional, certified organic wines that embody the essence of their terroir.
The heart of Pálffy Winery lies in its meticulous cultivation of diverse grape varietals, thriving in the volcanic soil enriched with basalt, lava, and tufa rocks. The vineyards are home to a range of grape types including Olaszrizling, Pinot Noir, Tramini, Furmint, Maple, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. Embracing natural farming practices, the vineyard eschews pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides, fostering an environment where the vines flourish naturally, resulting in grapes with high acidity and mineral-rich character.
Gyula and Gyula Jr. Pálffy, the sixth and seventh-generation winemakers, epitomize a legacy deeply rooted in the winemaking village of Köveskál. The Pálffy family has inhabited this land for generations, with historical recognition dating back to 1790 when their exemplary wines earned them nobility status. Today, their unwavering commitment to their craft remains unshaken as they continue to nurture the land in the vineyards of Fekete-hegy, Kishegy, Cserekút, Kisgyepű, and Csákvölgy.
With a profound respect for nature and tradition, the vineyards are meticulously tended using organic farming practices. Each harvest sees a careful hand-selecting only the finest grape clusters for winemaking. The commitment to sustainability extends to the cellar, where every wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation, allowing the truest expression of the grape and terroir to shine through.
Beyond the borders of their homeland, the Pálffy family holds a passionate aspiration—to reintroduce the world to the distinguished wines born from Köveskál and the Káli basin. Their pursuit is not merely to produce exceptional wines but to share the essence of their heritage, inviting enthusiasts worldwide to experience the unique and prestigious wines that embody the spirit of their ancestral land.
