TOMCSÁNYI

The Tomcsányi winery is like this amazing story about a family from Budapest who found their groove making wine on Somló Hill. Back in 2010, Árpád’s dad decided to buy some land on this stunning part of Somló, and who would’ve guessed that it would totally change their lives?

Even though Árpád and his wife, Nóri, were more into the art  (they actually met at film school!), they fell in love with winemaking after moving to Somló in 2014. At first, they were pretty tied up with work in Budapest, but when the pandemic hit, they shifted gears and spent more time getting into the whole vineyard vibe.

What’s cool about the Tomcsányi crew is their total belief in making wine the natural way. No messing around—just natural fermentation, letting the wine do its thing on skins or lees, and no sulfur in the bottles. It’s all about showing respect for the land and what it gives.

They’ve got about 2.5 hectares of vines, all grown organically. They see their vineyard as this beautiful garden where everything works together, from bugs and birds to flowers, fruit trees, and other plants. They’re like vineyard whisperers, always tuning in to what each plant needs.

Local grapes are their stars. They’re all about Hárslevelű, Furmint, Juhfark, Olaszrizling/Welschriesling—grapes that really bring out the Somló vibes. And now, they’re even adding Kadarka to their lineup, showing mad love for local traditions.

Their wine labels are a piece of art, reflecting the love for their land and their artistic background. You can see the iconic Somló mountain, the grapes that make their magic, and even the Tomcsányi family fingerprints on those labels.

The Tomcsányi winery isn’t just about making wine. It’s this a wonderful story about a city family who followed their hearts and totally rocked it as winemakers in Somló. It’s all about passion, dedication, and soaking in the beauty of nature, becoming a part of Somló’s wine scene in the best way as possible.
